Paul Aitkens PGA Professional

Paul Aitkens B.A. (Hons) who is based at Leamington & County Golf Club works for the Inclusive Golf Academy which aims to give Deaf people the chance to experience golf and assist them through a structured pathway to achieve. A firm believer in Inclusive golf, Paul studied at the University of Birmingham to obtain his Degree in Applied Golf and Management Studies.

Leamington & County Golf Club is an 18 holes members club with extensive facilities including an outdoor range and indoor academy with all the latest in golf simulator technology to help you get the best out of your game in whatever aspect.

However, what stands Paul out from the rest of the Golf professionals is that Paul is currently working towards his Level 2 BSL qualification having successfully completed his Level 1. Having also obtained teaching experience at Longwill and Braidwood School for the Deaf as well as the Birmingham Institute for the Deaf, he has a wealth of experience in communicating and delivering clear teaching sessions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing players, whether new or old to the game.

Currently, Paul is also working with Martin Broomfield who is a member of the English Deaf Golf Association to help improve his game. Martin has already played in the England V Wales Disability One Day International on Monday 23rd September at Pontypridd Golf Club. Paul is working with Martin to improve his game even further and set the sights on being a member of the English Deaf Golf Association Development Team for future international events.

'Paul has always developed excellent working relationships with the pupils he teaches. His ability to sign as well as his knowledge of how deaf children learn has meant that the children at Longwill have progressed exceptionally well with their golfing skills. Their understanding of the language used in golf has also improved significantly. He always provides innovative activities that allow the children to initally learn new skills and then apply them in a fun and meaningful way. The children always look forward to their golf sessions and partake with great enthusiasm. Longwill have now worked with Paul for two years and it is a relationship that we are very keen to continue.' Erin Straw - Year 6 teacher Longwill School for the Deaf, Birmingham

Andrew Neal, up until recently, has been unable to fix himself on the game of golf due to work commitments. Now his time has freed up, he is now seeing Paul for lessons. His aim is to join the Leicestershire Deaf Golf Society and then the English Deaf Golf Association.
